An original expression of Tuscany
Pèppoli at Pebble Beach is an original expression of Tuscany, a restaurant that thrills not just the palate, but the thirst of today’s sophisticated patrons longing for an adventure in dining. Restaurants, of course, are a collaboration by nature; a dialogue between ingredients and imagination, artistry and technique, ambiance and hospitality.
In the late 1990’s Rich Pèpe had conceived of an idea to create the world’s first vineyard-themed restaurant and asked his great friend and legendary Italian winemaker Marchese Piero Antinori to collaborate with him. In January of 2000, in collaboration with The Pebble Beach Resorts they successfully opened Pèppoli at Pebble Beach.
Inspired by The Pèppoli Vineyard in Tuscany owned by Antinori, Pèppoli at Pebble Beach captures the look and feel of dining in a Tuscan villa, rich earth tones, and Tuscan ceramics grace the restaurant, albeit overlooking the famous golf links of Spanish Bay and one of the best views of the Pacific Ocean from your dining table. One entire wall serves to showcase the wines: another features a terra cotta grill and rotisserie. The restaurant is located inside the 270-room Inn at Spanish Bay Resort.
The menu focuses on the centuries-old traditions of culture & cuisine of the Antinori family, Florence and the Tuscan countryside. Chef de Cuisine Angela Tamura oversees the kitchen and along with the chefs from Cantinetta Antinori in Florence she will be in constant collaboration to create new ideas, yet always respecting the long-standing Tuscan traditions.
The Antinori family has led a “renaissance” in Italian wine making by combining long-standing traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit.
The Pèppoli Vineyard, located 20 miles south of Florence, was originally built as a monastery and records show that vineyards have been kept there since the middle ages by Vallombrosan Monks.
Piero Antinori purchased the 14th century estate in 1985 to celebrate his family’s 600th anniversary as Chianti wine producers, dating back to 1385 and spanning 26 generations. A total of 136 acres of grapevines are planted which produce the Pèppoli Single-Vineyard Chianti Classico, a lively, fruit-driven sangiovese based wine that compliments Italian food perfectly.
The wine list at Pèppoli at Pebble Beach is world-class and features the finest collection of Antinori wines available outside of Italy, including multiple vintages and magnums of Tignanello, Solaia and Guado al Tasso.
Seasonal food and wine “festas” are planned with personal appearances by Marchese Piero Antinori, his three daughters and his winemakers scheduled periodically.
