California’s oldest bakery has been on Ocean Avenue in Carmel since 1899. This is our shop in Monterey.

Daily, 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.

What we have

Coffee, pretzels, pastries.

Pèpe Coffee, our family’s own. Giant pretzels, cannoli, apple fritters and cookies. Morning pastries go fast.

Only at this bakery: warm croissant sandwiches, made to order. Ham, egg and cheese or bacon, egg and cheese, with Swiss, pepper jack or provolone.

Inside Portola Hotel & Spa.

Portola Hotel & Spa (opens in a new tab) is on Monterey Bay, between Alvarado Street and Fisherman’s Wharf. It is named for Gaspar de Portolá, Governor of Las Californias from 1768.
