Ciao Amici (hello friends),
As 2012 draws to an end, I look back on another very interesting year!
Early in the year I kicked off my Mayoral campaign, Pèpe for Mayor 2012. Running for mayor was one of the most interesting experiences in my life. While I did not win, I acquired a deeper knowledge of Carmel, its residents and our local government. I plan to stay politically engaged and am working side-by-side with our current Mayor Jason Burnett to help create an economic revitalization and city-wide beautification program.
My older son Christian has been a wonderful help to me and Sandra and he has revamped our wine and spirits programs at our restaurants. His entry into our businesses has helped shape the future of our organization, and I'm very proud to have him join us. My younger son Gian Antonio is now a senior at Cal Berkeley and he has a job waiting for him when he graduates in June.
Probably the most exciting happening of the year was to have both of my sons become certified "pizzaioli" after taking pizza making classes in Napoli. While Gian was studying abroad in Florence, Christian flew over and they both attended the Scuola Verace Pizza Napoletana. Upon their return they recreated the pizza menus at both Vesuvio and Little Napoli and these recipes will live on for many years.
In October I was going back to Hoboken for a friend's daughter wedding, and happened to arrive just as Hurricane Sandy hit New York City and New Jersey. The local paper here in Carmel gave my experience front page coverage and the article can be read here: Pine Cone
Finally, we ended the year in December by creating my 1st Edition of Carmel-by-the-Glass, a wine tasting and fashion show event in Devendorf Park in downtown Carmel. The event brought out about 450 people on a chilly winter's night and we raised $3,000 for the Carmel Mission Foundation.
On behalf of the entire Pèpe family, there is no time more fitting to say "Thank You" to all my family and friends around the world and to wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and a New Year of health, happiness and prosperity.
Please enjoy my newsletter and best regards to all.
Buon Natale e Buon Anno, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
